Most frequent questions and answers
NSBE is open to all students and professionals who are interested in promoting the goals and ideals of the organization.
NSBE provides its members with opportunities to network with other Black engineers, participate in professional development programs, and engage in community service activities.
NSBE organizes a variety of events, including career fairs, technical workshops, and community outreach programs.
You can get involved by becoming a member and/or attending chapter meetings, participating in events and volunteering for our community service projects.

a. Some scholarships have a GPA requirement
b. You will be prompted to create a scholarship applicant account at https://nsbe.smapply.io/
2. Collegiate-APEx Membership Status
a. Preferred registration rates for NSBE conferences and annual convention
b. Qualification for awards, recognition, and special events (APEx Luncheon, etc.)
3. Reporting academic progress of the national membership as a whole
NSBE Region IV and NSBE MSU may also use your verified GPA for similar purposes. To
protect confidentiality, the student must initiate the GPA verification process
Academic Pyramid of Excellence (Apex)
There are three Apex Levels (GPA’s are measured on a 4.0 grading scale)

NSBE Member:
- Log into your MyNSBE profile using your username and password at nsbe.org
- Hover over the user icon and choose “Profile.”
- Click on the “Education Roster” option found on the left side of the dashboard.
- Press the “Pencil” icon to modify or edit your record.
- Make sure all details in the Education Roster are current and complete.
- Scroll down to input your GPA in the “Self-reported” GPA section (ensure the GPA is on a 4.0 scale).
- Be sure you are in the Education Roster and not the Additional Information section!
- Your Self Reported GPA must match your current GPA in the MSU Student Information System, student.msu.edu.
- After saving your self-reported GPA, your information will be visible in the advisor’s portal for approval.
- Complete and submit this GPA Verification Form.
- . The NSBE MSU Chapter Advisor will complete the verification process and email you a confirmation.
- Your GPA will show as Confirmed in your MyNSBE profile immediately.
- To check if your GPA has been approved by the advisor, log back into your MyNSBE profile.
- If you choose to submit a paper form to the MSU Registrar or another advisor the process can take up to 2 weeks. Please fill out the GPA Collection Form and have it signed by your registrar’s office, then send it to scholarships@nsbe.org.
New MSU Students Only (Freshman or Transfer)
- First-year students are allowed to submit their high school GPA, and after receiving their grades for the first semester, they are required to resubmit their GPA for confirmation.
- If you are a new MSU student without a current GPA, complete the steps above and add notes to the comments section stating this is your first semester and you do not have a MSU GPA.
- The chapter advisor will contact you via email if extra verification steps are required.
